Ferdia Mooney, Collins Avenue, Dublin 9

Why is reading so important?

I think reading is so important because it’s such a great escape from everything.

You can open up the pages of any book and escape into any world that you can find.

You get to see these lives and these stories told from another perspective and I think it really helps you grow as an individual to get that.

What book do you recommend to friends?

The book that I keep recommending to friends is And the Hippos Were Boiled in Their Tanks by William Burroughs and Jack Kerouac.

It was a joint book where they took a chapter each, and it rolls along like that, telling the same story from two different sides.

What book from elsewhere would you recommend to a Dublin friend?

The book from elsewhere that I’d recommend to a Dublin friend would be Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter Thompson.

However true it is, it’s a wild and chaotic story and it’s just a beautiful exercise in language and writing.
