April: One Dublin One Book

April is a great month for booklovers in Dublin. It is the month when One Dublin One Book is celebrated, along with a full programme of wonderful events from Dublin UNESCO City of Literature.

This year, the book we will all have our noses stuck into is Leonard and Hungry Paul by Rónán Hession. It’s been described as the book we all need - a book about the ordinary things that we might miss in our day-to-day lives.

April really marks a turn in the year and a signal of new beginnings and renewal. The spring bulbs are in full bloom, the cherry blossoms are laden with delicate pink flowers, the lilac is in bud and the birds are busy building their nests. The abundance of nature is once again all around us, the colour giving our spirits a welcome lift.

This year, should the April showers hold off, I hope to plant myself on a bench on the canal, early in the morning with a good coffee and my copy of Leonard and Hungry Paul and indulge myself in my favourite things.

Where will you be sitting down to read this April?
