Do you feel a little lift in your spirits this month?
Do you feel a little lift in your spirits this month? The birdsong is waking me up before dawn each morning, the bees are busy feeding on the carpet of dandelions in my back garden and best of all I am meeting so many of my neighbours who, newly vaccinated, are out and about again. After a year where we were all reminded of the important things in life and rediscovered the joy of simple pleasures.
Back in the dark days of February, we asked some of you what and where you liked to read and we thought you might like to hear some of those answers here.
For the last year, Our City Our Books has kept us connected though books and chats in and out of lockdowns, re-openings and the many changes that have occurred throughout that time.
The Our City Our Books book club has continued to meet twice monthly and have had many lively discussions and great recommendations from our readers. Last week, we had a visit from Rónán Hession, author of Leonard & Hungry Paul, the One Dublin One Book choice for 2021. It was universally loved by our book clubs, as was Rónán. If you haven’t got round to reading it yet, give yourself a treat and do so. It is available from your local library, as well as on Borrowbox.
Which brings me neatly to the big news, the re-opening of libraries and book shops! Oh to stand in a space surrounded by books, to smell them, to touch them, to bring them home. And maybe even to take them to a café and have a read with a coffee served in a real cup - with a saucer by a person! Oh the excitement!
Keep up to date with news from Dublin City Libraries here.
